Patrika
MediaSenior Full Stack Engineer — Backend / NestJS
RemoteContractINR 1200000 - 1400000 per year
About the role
Role Overview
Build the services behind Patrika’s newsroom and reader products — APIs that stay fast and available when a story breaks and traffic multiplies within minutes. This is a backend-weighted fullstack role: NestJS and TypeScript in production, MongoDB and a relational store, AWS, auth, caching from Redis to CloudFront, and a pager you have actually carried.
What You'll Work On
- Design and build NestJS services in TypeScript that serve both reader-facing and newsroom-facing traffic.
- Keep the platform standing when a story breaks — caching, autoscaling, backpressure, load shedding and graceful degradation.
- Model data across MongoDB and relational stores, and own the indexes and query plans that keep reads fast at volume.
- Build and secure the authentication surface: login, sessions, SSO, entitlements, roles and permissions.
- Ship personalisation — the signals, the ranking and the experiments behind what each reader sees.
- Own the caching contract end to end, from Redis to CloudFront, including purge-on-publish when a story is corrected or pulled.
- Build the APIs the mobile and web teams depend on, and treat their developer experience as part of the job.
- Instrument everything: tracing, metrics, SLOs and alerts that page a human only when a human is needed.
- Take part in on-call, write honest incident reviews, and fix the class of problem rather than the instance.
Who Is Right for This Role
- 5–8 years in backend engineering, including at least 2–3 years hands-on NestJS in production.
- Writes real TypeScript — typed services, dependency injection, decorators — not JavaScript with a few annotations.
- Has run MongoDB at scale: aggregation pipelines, indexing strategy, explain plans, replica sets or sharding.
- Has genuine relational experience — PostgreSQL or MySQL, transactions, query plans, migrations.
- Can describe a specific traffic spike they handled: the number, what broke, and what they changed.
- Has deployed and operated on AWS — ECS, EC2, S3 and CloudFront.
- Has built proper AuthN and AuthZ: OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, JWT, role-based access, and at least one SSO integration.
- Has carried a production pager and written up an incident afterwards.
- Can join immediately (0–15 days).
Who Isn't a Fit
- Has not spent 2–3 years on NestJS in production.
- TypeScript is annotations on JavaScript, not typed services and DI.
- Mongo experience without aggregations, indexes, explain plans, or replica/shard operations.
- No PostgreSQL or MySQL with transactions, query plans and migrations.
- Cannot describe a specific traffic spike: the number, what broke, and what they changed.
- Has not operated on AWS (ECS, EC2, S3, CloudFront).
- Has not built OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, JWT, RBAC and at least one SSO integration.
- Has never carried a production pager or written an incident review.
- Notice period longer than 15 days.
How You'll Work
- Full-time contract, remote / flexible (India).
- Immediate joiners only — notice period 0–15 days.
- Experience required: 5–8 years.
